'Local Heros' receive sustainability grants in 2007-2008
21 community groups have been awarded grants to undertake projects that will contribute to environmental sustainability in their local council area as part of the "Grass Roots" program funded by WSN Environmental Solutions.
This is the third year that the Grass Roots Program has been run, with 21 projects in 14 council areas being awarded grants during 2007 - 2008.
Earlier this year community groups and individuals in 32 local government areas across Sydney had the opportunity to apply through their council for a grant to run their own sustainable project.
WSN Environmental Solutions' CEO, Ken Kanofski, said "Often it's small community projects that can have the biggest impact on the local environment. Through the Grass Roots program we wanted to be responsible, give groups and individuals the opportunity to bring their great ideas to life, and inspire others to become involved in projects that benefit their local environment."
Mr Kanofski continued, "This is the third year that we have run the Grass Roots Program and, once again, the quality of applications has been very high. WSN Environmental Solutions is proud to be able to support these projects focused on environmental sustainability at a small community level to make a big difference."
A showcase event will be held in June 2008 to celebrate these completed projects.
