Medical and Hygiene Waste
Medical waste includes waste that contains
any body tissue or fluids, including dialysis and colostomy bags, needles,
syringes, sharps, bandages and dressings, cytotoxic waste, dental waste,
surgical or veterinary waste. Medical
waste can pose health risks and must be very carefully treated.

accept my medical and hygiene waste?
Medical waste is not accepted at any WSN site.
What else can I do with my medical
and hygiene waste?
By law medical waste must be incinerated or treated in a Department of
Health approved process for clinical waste. For more information contact

Non-prescription medications in small quantities (household amounts) can
be taken to your local pharmacy for disposal, or disposed of in normal
domestic garbage.
Prescription medications in small quantities can be taken to your local
pharmacy for disposal and must not be placed in your household bins. For

program.
Colostomy bags are considered as clinical waste and must be disposed
of through a properly accredited waste contractor or through a hospital.
Contact hospitals ahead of time to ensure that they can accept the waste.
Colostomy bags, if empty, can be disposed of through your normal garbage
service.
