Batteries

This section covers household batteries, mobile phone batteries and vehicle batteries. For information about the disposal of other types of batteries, please contact Customer Service on 1300 651 116.

Will WSN Environmental Solutions accept my batteries?

Vehicle batteries are accepted for recycling free of charge at WSN's Resource Recovery Centres. Limits and other conditions apply on some items accepted at Resource Recovery Centres - please consult the latest price guide, or contact Customer Service on 1300 651 116.

Other types of batteries are not accepted at WSN sites and must not be placed in general waste or recycling bin as they often contain dangerous substances such as lead and highly corrosive acids. These substances can leak and cause harm to site staff and can be hazardous to the environment if disposed of in a landfill.

What else can I do with my batteries?

If it's not convenient to visit a WSN Resource Recovery Centre, contact your local mechanic or car battery retailers to see if they accept vehicle batteries for recycling.

Household Batteries
are accepted free of charge via the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water's Chemical CleanOut program. Visit the CleanOut website for information on upcoming drop off dates and venues.

Mobile phones and their batteries can be taken to certain retail outlets for recycling, as well as to some other locations including council offices. Contact your local council to find out if they have a Mobile Muster drop-off point, visit the
Mobile Muster website, or call 1300 730 070 to find out where to drop off your old phone batteries.

In no instance should you burn batteries. This releases dangerous fumes and can cause an explosion.
